Start with a blank canvas.  To create the ombre background, start with the base color (darkest color)  first.  Once you paint the first color, add white to your palette to lighten the color.  Paint your next layer.  You can use a bit of water on your brush to help the colors blend and transition smoothly.  Continue to add white to the same palette creating a lighter and lighter shade.

Once your background has dried (maybe an hour or so in a well-ventilated area) start on your main image.  For this set, we did matching whimsical mama and mini sea urchins, cone shells and starfish with plain white paint.  Be creative and make them your own.  These are going to look fabulous up in our guest bathroom!
